    Abstract

Micro-enterprises and micro-entrepreneurs are not well researched, understood, or recognised for their contribution to rural sustainability. Further, data on rural micro-enterprises and micro-entrepreneurs is not adequately dis-aggregated to contextualise their challenges and construct appropriate responses. The MICRO project (Enhancing Competitiveness of Microenterprises in Rural Areas, see http://www.microsmetraining.eu/index.php) seeks to pilot a response to the challenge for rural micro-entrepreneurs in accessing online free appropriate information in bite-size chunks. The vision of the Commission of the European Community (CEC) is to develop an online open educational resource (OER) to meet the information and training needs of rural micro-entrepreneurs. This thirty eight (38) page composite report (MICRO Project Output 2) draws on a range of pan-European literature and the responses from one hundred and fifty five (155) rural enterprise respondents to provide an evidence based foundation for the piloting of ten (10) educational Modules (MICRO Project Output 2) prepared collectively by the project partners (See http://www.microsmetraining.eu/training.php). Project partners then implemented a series of test and validation workshops (Output 4 of the MICRO Project See http://www.microsmetraining.eu/) in each of the six countries during May to September 2018. The workshops attracted over 350 rural entrepreneurs. Their feedback was collected and reported for further development of the MICRO OER. For further information on the MICRO project visit http://www.microsmetraining.eu/. For information of the pilot training see the video “MICRO_ Rural_Entrepreneur_Training_ Project_Overview_Presentation” at https://youtu.be/zy67hdtstA4. The MICRO_ Rural_Entrepreneur_Training_ Project_Overview_Presentation is a 9 minute 30 second video-powerpoint presentation with voice overlays. The powerpoint presentation was applied in test and validation workshops (Output 4 of the MICRO Project See http://www.microsmetraining.eu/) in each of the six countries attracting over 350 rural microentrepreneurs during May to September 2018.
