Abstract

Section 10c(4)(a) of the National Minimum Wage Act, 2000 provides that, if so requested by the Minister, the Commission shall examine and report its views and recommendations on such matters as are specified in that request. In September 2016 the Minister for Employment & Small Business, Mr Pat Breen, T.D. asked the Commission to review the allowances for board and lodgings under the National Minimum Wage Act, 2000, and in particular to examine and advise on the appropriate inflator that should be applied to the rates set in 2000 and to recommend new rates, taking into account the time that has passed since the rates were first set.
