Abstract
The author draws on recent North American scholarship in the anthropology of education to
show emerging trends in research on school-based democratic citizenship education. She gives
examples of research, both at the level of national policies and individual schools, which addresses
ways in which global and local infl uences interact in the creation and implementation of programs
on democratic citizenship
