Commercial and Industrial change in Cork City from the Act of Union to 1826.
Masters thesis, St Patrick's College, Maynooth.
Abstract
One of the neglected periods in the economic history of "The County of the city of Cork" is that covered by the first quarter of the 19th century. The political history of the city has been summarily treated by Gibson, Cusack and O'Daly. Dr. O'Sullivan has ably presented the economic history of the city from the earliest times but only as far as the Act of Union. The present thesis has, therefore, the purpose of attempting to continue the economic history of the city from the Act of Union to the year 1826, with special emphasis on its most striking characteristic namely, commercial and industrial change.
