    Abstract

This paper is set in the context of a series of question that are particularly relevant as we consider the word of paid work in this early part of the 21st century: how can all living things on the globe, including the earth itself, flourish? How do we create sane societies? How do we avoid compromising the natural systems that we ultimately depend on for our well being – human health, earth systems and community systems? How do we create economies -- and the resulting workplaces -- that serve people and societies, instead of economies that dictate our lifestyles and – world-wide -- degrade the environment, human health, happiness and communities in the name of economic growth?
