Abstract
An innovative fault tolerant, high-energy particle monitor designed to record protons in the range 35–500 MeV when
in polar orbit aboard NASA’s Gravity Probe B spacecraft, is described. This device, which is configured to provide
continuous, reliable operation in the hostile particle environment traversed by the spacecraft, can potentially be used
either as an onboard monitor or as a scientific experiment.
