Abstract
Some of the methods commonly used in identifying training needs for managers are described and an alternative approach is presented which is based upon managers' responses to real incidents. All incidents are written and designed to include ten entrepreneurial behavior attributes: 1. result-driven, 2. non-system bound, 3. risk-taking, 4. innovative, 5. opportunistic, 6. informal, 7. network-driven, 8. less control-orientation, 9. change-orientation and 10. integration. Having been validated, this method is used to identify the training needs of 13 managers in a Hong Kong bank.
