Abstract
An attempt is made to examine the extent to which globalization has influenced the relative demand for skilled labor within Northern Ireland manufacturing. There exists no evidence of any reallocation of employment away from labor intensive industries towards skill intensive industries. However, the proportion of skilled labor within Northern Ireland manufacturing industry increased substantially over the period 1984 to 1990, and this is likely to have been a contributory factor to the rise in earnings inequality during the 1980s.
