Abstract
Ireland experiences the highest motor and liability insurance premiums in the European Union. Because of the political implications attempts have been made by government to reduce these expenses by attacking the main constituent of these insurance premiums, litigation costs. An attempt is made to compare legal fees incurred in personal injury claims by an insurer operating in England and Ireland, and whether any differences can be explained by different legal cultures is explored.
