Abstract
Novel initiatives amongst the Internet community such as Internet2 [1] and Qbone [2] are based on the use of high
bandwidth and powerful computers. However the experience amongst the majority of Internet users is light-years from
these emerging technologies. We describe the construction of a distributed high performance search engine, utilizing
advanced threading techniques on a diskless Linux cluster. The resulting Virtual Reality scene is passed to a standard
client machine for viewing. This search engine bridges the gap between the Internet of today, and the Internet of the
future.
