    Abstract

With the inauguration of Mauricio Macri as president of Argentina in 2015, an electoral cycle began in Latin America that seemed to put an end to the so-called "pink tide" of progressive left-wing governments that had dominated the region since the beginning of the new millennium. Until then, the left had mainly focused academic attention, so there were hardly any works on the right (some exceptions are Palau, 2010; Domínguez et al. , 2011; Vonmaro and Moressi, 2015). It has been from this electoral turn that works with the right have been appearing as an object of study (see, for example, López Sagrera, 2016; Colombia Internacional, 2019 Luna and Rovira Kaltwasser, 2014; and, reviewed in this volume, Cannon , 2016; Bohoslavsky et al., 2019). However, most of this literature either adopts a primarily political perspective, focusing primarily on political parties and institutions (namely Luna and Rovira Kaltwasser, 2014; Vonmaro and Moressi, 2015; Colombia Internacional, 2019), or it follows a more sociological or historical approach, emphasizing the role of de facto authorities – the Church, the media, companies (agricultural and industrial) and the Army – as well as transnational influences, especially from the United States (Domínguez et al. , 2011; Cannon, 2016; Bohoslavsky et al. , 2019).
