    Abstract

This research report documents the development and context of the Inclusive Learning Initiative (ILI) at Maynooth University 2011-2018. In 2009 the National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUIM) and four other organisations - KARE, St. John of Gods Community Services, Stewarts Care and Camphill Communities – established a collaboration in order to identify ways of making higher education more inclusive for students with intellectual disabilities. The Inclusive Learning Initiative (ILI) emerged as a result of these collaborative efforts, supporting students with ID to attend higher education in Maynooth University. This report records the outcomes of research carried out in tandem with this pilot initiative. The ILI was both an access route and support system for students during their time in college, with this research documenting the experiences of staff. A companion report by Fergal Finnegan documents the experiences of students.

    Item Type: Monograph (Project Report)
Additional Information: The information in this report was originally researched in two evaluations separately by the researchers in 2012 and 2013 respectively and were used for strategic planning by the ILI team and Maynooth University at this time. They are now combined into one integrated report about staff experiences during the ILI in the first three years of the pilot in this document. All material and data included in this document originates from these two evaluations, aside from some contextual literature on educators’ perspectives from inclusive education at higher education added by Bernie Grummell.
