An Analytical Survey
of
The Organ Music of
Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986).
Masters thesis, National University of Ireland Maynooth.
Abstract
This study approaches the organ compositions of Maurice Duruflé from an
analytical point of view. With the standard categories of form, harmony,
counterpoint, rhythm and melody as a general frame of reference, each
composition will be examined in its own terms. In this way it is hoped to form a
general impression of the composer's style and method.
Each analysis will be preceded by a brief commentary which will include relevant
information concerning the composition, publication and nature of the work in
question.
The work-list is taken from an article on Duruflé by Gwilyrn Beechey in The
Music Review issue of May 1971. House style follows that of the Royal Musical
Association.
