Abstract

Our goal is to study how Julien Green brings to light the particular poetry of certain Parisian landscapes: the district of the Bourse, rue Jean-Bologne, crossing the Pont-Neuf, the banks of the Seine... We will underline the effect that outside space has on the inner psychological space and show the relationship between geographical expanse and oneiric and spiritual space. At this point, the boundaries between real and imaginary tend to fade away. The only thing that is important is the "reality of vision" and these precise places are often transposed into his novels, for example in "Dark beauty" (Léviathan) or in "The Strange River" (Épaves) where we find striking and unexpected contrasts. In any case, "the Paris that he stores in his memory and that looks more beautiful to him than that of his neighbor" remains unmistakably present for all (Paris, pp. 45-46).
